Tricine is commonly used as a component of the Tris-Tricine-SDS (TTS) running buffer, with SDS-PAGE of proteins using the Shagger and von Jagow method. The method is designed for the separation of low molecular weight proteins and differs from the Laemmli method in that the Glycine is replaced with Tricine. This biological buffer has a usable pH range of 7.4-8.8.
